CONCORD, N.H. — Eunice (Anderson) Van Wyck, 88, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014, surrounded by family at Havenwood Heritage Heights.

She was one of eleven children born to Gustav and Ethel Anderson in Proctor, Vermont. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 1949 with a degree in elementary education. After graduation, Eunice married John T. Van Wyck. They were happily married for 63 years and raised three children.

Eunice was a lifelong lover of children. She taught elementary school for 22 years, starting out as a substitute teacher and eventually as a third-grade teacher in Broomall, Pa. During this time, she also volunteered at her church, teaching primary school religious education, Vacation Bible School, and helping with the youth choir. After retirement in 1986, John and Eunice wintered in Sun City, Fla., where she continued to volunteer in elementary school classrooms. Summers after retirement were spent on Wilson Lake in Acton, Maine, where she enjoyed hosting many family gatherings for her children and seven grandchildren and continued to volunteer in her church.

Other activities that Eunice enjoyed were lawn bowling, square dancing, bell choir, singing, camping and traveling, and PEO.

Eunice was predeceased by her husband, John, and her son James Edward Van Wyck. She is survived by her son John (Jack) Van Wyck and wife Liz of Burgaw N.C., a daughter Joy Van Wyck and husband Brad Borbidge of Bow, N.H., and daughter-in-law, Susan Van Wyck of Gorham, Maine; seven grandchildren, including Caitlin, Jonathan, Brian and Kristen Van Wyck and Jenna, Jamy and Brett Borbidge; and two great-grandchildren, Claire and James Van Wyck. She also leaves behind Jillie, her beloved four-legged companion.

She will be lovingly remembered for her endless energy, her love of children and animals and her enjoyment of entertaining family and friends, both old and new, always with an open door, engaging conversation and a warm, home-cooked meal.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014, in the auditorium at Havenwood with a reception following. Burial will be held at the Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington, Vt., at noon Sunday, August 24, 2014. A reception will follow at the White House Inn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Havenwood Heritage Heights Resident Support Fund at 33 Christian Ave., Concord, NH, or the Concord Hospital Trust at 250 Pleasant St., Concord, NH.
