    James ‘Jimm’ Ryan Steele

    SUDBURY — James “Jimm” Ryan Steele, age 78, died Monday, August 11, 2014, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

    Jimm was born in Sudbury on November 24, 1935, the son of William and Beatrice Steele. He was a graduate of Brandon High School, class of 1953. He was owner/operator of Valley Custom Auto Body where his specialty was restoring vintage cars. He was a member of American Legion Post #55; RAVE and Pontiac Oakland International.

    He won many trophies at car shows showing his 1965 Pontiac LeMans, which he and his son, Eric, restored piece by piece. Jimm enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles, drag racing Corvettes and racing snowmobiles.

    In his earlier years, he was employed at Bill Ryan Motor Sales in Brandon and logged with his good friend, Bernie Humiston.

    He is survived by his wife, Judy; a son Eric (Laurie Abatiell) of Sudbury; a daughter Kimberly McDonnell; his grandchildren Kayleigh, Eric and Aiden McDonnell of Rutland; and his daughter Lori Steele (Cathy Partalis) of Rutland Town; special in-laws Nancy Zapf and Robert Crosby; sisters Beatrice Betty Steele of Orwell and Mary Parker of Sudbury; brother Robert of Sudbury; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brother William Jr., and sister Catherine Howland.

    At Jimm’s request there will be no visiting hours or memorial service.

    A celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of his family at a later date.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
