MOUNT HOLLY — A Clarendon man who police say fired a shotgun twice at a fleeing family member during a family fight on Gates Road on Friday morning is behind bars on $25,000 bail, according to Vermont State Police.

Cody P. Ahonen, 21, was arrested and charged with first-degree aggravated domestic assault after a 6 a.m. fight at 978 Gates Road.

Police say a verbal disagreement at the home escalated to physical violence. When the family member he was fighting with fled the home, police say Ahonen grabbed a shotgun and fired into the woods in the direction the fleeing person took.

Police say the shotgun blasts, fired from a 12-gauge shotgun, didn’t hit anyone.

The shotgun was found inside a home near 978 Gates Road, police said.

Ahonen is scheduled to be arraigned in Rutland criminal court Monday.
