• Hours after fire out, firefighters called back to Rutland Plywood, building destroyed

    Hours after a fire at Rutland Plywood seemed to be out another one started and destroyed the building, according to fire officials.

    Officials said the call came in at 1:10 am today and firefighters were still on the scene at the five-alarm blaze at 6:30 am.

    Officials termed damage "extensive."

    Ripley Road, which leads to Rutland Plywood, is closed to traffic this morning.

    Fire officials do not believe the fire is suspicious. A state police fire investigators is on the way to the scene this morning.

    About 100 firefighters were at the scene overnight working to put out the blaze.

    Five departments remain at the scene with firefighters spraying water from ladder trucks onto the remains of the building.

    No injuries were reported.

    Rutland Plywood manufactures hardwood composites and specialty plywood for a variety of industries and uses. It has been in business since 1957, according to the company's website.

    Red Cross volunteers also responded overnightt to assist firefighters.
