The boil-water notice for the western part of Rutland's water system has been lifted.

Municipal water users west of Otter Creek were advised to boil water before drinking it Thursday after efforts to fight the Rutland Pluywood fire drew so heavily on the system that it created a negative pressure situation, which carries a risk of contamination.

As of Friday morning, three consecutive tests for contamination came back negative, and city officials said the water is certified as safe to consume.
