PROCTOR — Olive Louise Peterson, 86, a lifelong resident of Proctor, passed away peacefully August 26, 2014, at The Pines at Rutland, after a long illness.
Olive was born August 10, 1928, daughter of Henry and Louise (McCullough) Nelson. She was a graduate of Proctor High School and Rutland Business College. She worked for Law Offices of Edward McClallen. She was also secretary and bookkeeper for her husband’s business for many years.
Olive married her childhood sweetheart, Chester E. Peterson, also of Proctor, in 1950, and they were blessed with three children.
She found joy in homemaking, excelling at cooking and baking, and tending her flower and vegetable gardens. She also found enrichment in reading Bible scriptures and novels, listening to music and playing her organ, taking art lessons, along with visits on her front porch. Olive, possessing an innate talent for freehand drawing, became an accomplished artist through her oil paintings of many beautiful landscapes.
Throughout her life, Olive valued and maintained relationships with many cherished friends, neighbors and relatives. She enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Scott Peterson and wife Lori of Lyman, N.H., Robert Peterson and wife Gail of Rutland Town, Vt.; one daughter, Carlene Smith and husband George of Proctor, Vt.; five grandchildren, Erica, Sven, Heidi, Alissa and Max Peterson; five sisters-in-law, Alma Nelson, Jean Donaghey, Ruth (Raymond) Ferguson, all of Rutland, Vt., Betty Johnson of West Rutland, Vt., and Helen (Richard) Savery of Wallingford, Vt.
She was predeceased by her parents; one brother, Bert Nelson; and one sister, Hazel Dahlin.
Funeral service will be held at the Union Church of Proctor, Vt., on Friday, September 12, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., reception to follow at the church parish hall.
