    Chase in city

    ends in crash

An early morning car chase in Rutland City over the weekend ended with a crash into a home on Stratton Road, according to Rutland Police.

At about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, city police tried to stop a Audi sedan seen leaving what police described as a “known drug location” on Woodstock Avenue.

Rather than stop, the driver, who police say was Jason Davis, of Rutland, sped up, fleeing down East Street. Davis allegedly failed to stop at a number of stop signs on East Street and Jackson Avenue. The chase turned onto Stratton Road where Davis’ car allegedly went off the road while trying to traverse an intersection and crashed into a home and a tree at 172 Stratton Road.

Davis was uninjured in the crash, however police said passenger Carissa Redfield was taken by Regional Ambulance Service to Rutland Regional Medical Center where a spokeswoman said she was treated and released. Davis’ dog was also injured and was taken to the Rutland Veterinary Clinic, police said.

Davis, whose license was criminally suspended, was jailed on $15,000 bail.

He is scheduled to appear in Rutland criminal court today to answer to charges of eluding police, driving with a suspended license and gross negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
