ARLINGTON — Thomas Edward Hayes, Sr., 81, a resident of Buck Hill Road, passed away Friday August 29, 2014 at Albany, New York Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Tom was born in Bennington on December 24, 1932, the son of William E. and Ellen T. (Mann) Hayes. He attended Arlington schools, graduating from Arlington Memorial High School, class of 1950.
Upon graduation, Tom served his country as a member of the United States Navy for four years, honorably discharged in 1955. Tom worked for J.K. Adams for over twenty-nine years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 69 in Arlington, Harned-Fowler VFW in Manchester, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, also in Manchester, and a former member of the Arlington Lions Club.
Tom’s true passion was his love for golf. He also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, was an avid Dallas Cowboy football fan, loved a good joke, was an avid reader and enjoyed watching country-western movies, especially John Wayne. Tom enjoyed his home and cherished times spent with his family.
Tom is survived by his wife, the former Irma Louise (Lake), whom he married in Arlington, Vermont, in 1957; children Tony Hayes and his wife Tracy of Hebron, New York, Deborah Brown and her husband Robert of West Arlington, Pamela Vollinger and her husband Tom of Arlington, Angel Lescarbeau and her husband Louie of North Adams, Massachusetts, and Becky Koscinski and her husband Brian of Sunderland, Vermont; sixteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son Thomas Edward Hayes, Jr. and his sisters Ellen Labatt and Rosalie Wade.
A celebration of the life of Thomas Edward Hayes, Sr. will be held Saturday morning September 6, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, Arlington Chapel on Historic Route 7A followed by a gathering.
Interment will be private.
Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Friday, September 5, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
