WHEELOCK, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say a 17-year-old from Lyndon Center was shot and killed by his father Friday morning while the two were turkey hunting in the town of Wheelock.

Police say Jacob Kadamus was shot with a shotgun after his father, 45-year-old Kevin Kadamus, fired at what he believed was a turkey.

A preliminary investigation found the Jacob Kadamus left his original hunting area and crossed into his father’s area.

Police say that when rescue personnel arrived at about 6 a.m. they found Kevin Kadamus trying to help his son, but Jacob died at the scene of the shooting.

Game Wardens and police are investigating. Once the investigation is finished, the case will be turned over to the Caledonia County state’s attorney’s office.

This comment is regarding the event in which a man shot his son while hunting in Wheelock. (I'm not sure why the other comments here seem to be about a different shooting...)

Mr. Kadmus shot at an object in the distance that he believed to be a turkey, but he failed to positively identify his target before pulling the trigger. That is a violation of hunting rules, common sense, and the law. The article says that Jacob crossed into his father's hunting area. So, because Kevin Kadmus had instructed his son not to be in that area, he made the conscious, willful decision to violate state law and fire at an object he had yet to positively identify.

This was NOT an accident, it was a reckeless, negligent act that should be prosecuted fully. I am sick and tired of Vermont's "Second Amendment Follies" in the woods. Next time it might be someone the hunter ISN"T related to that gets killed. That would be an even worse tragedy.

Matt, I know you in person, and you are a decent guy. I am wondering though how you can sleep at night trying to portray a scumbag who deliberately murders his lover's husband as innocent. He clearly intended on causing serious bodily harm or death to Munger. What is it about going home to get a gun and a knife that you do not understand??

Michelle maybe you should have read the affidavit yourself, munger was stabbed in the back. and they found no weapons what so ever on munger or in his truck. It doesn't matter you don't bring a deadly weapon to any fight unless you intend on using it

I think it was a stupid, cowardly act. If you're going to stab an unarmed assailant, you might want him to take the first swing if you plan on claiming self defense. Photos right after the incident showed no signs Munger even touched him. Mr. Munger was justifiably upset, the manliest thing for Herrick to do would be to take a punch in the chin for taking the man's wife.
If you think you're going to a fight, and you think it'll get ugly, the most important thing to bring would be a witness.

To me it says that if Mr. Herrick was fearing that something might happen he should NOT have gone and he should have contacted the police for fear of his life. to me this sets the grounds for PREMEDITATED MURDER. No one forced him to go to the meeting. also why would Mr. Munger be that upset he was headed for a divorce anyway.
