Raiders forfeit a win

Rutland unknowingly used an ineligible player in its first two games of the season and as a result has forfeited its win over South Burlington. The Raiders now stand 0-2 overall as they head into Saturday's home game against Ledyard, Conn.

They begin their league schedule the following Friday at Hartford.

How 'bout them Mounties!
Is John Callahan rebuilding or just reloading? MSJ lost a raft of players from its championship team of 2005 but are off and running in 2006. The Acads opened with a less-than-convincing win over parochial rival Rice but then staged a great comeback against an Essex team that many picked to make the postseason.

The Wild Wild West
They're playing football in western Rutland County again. Poultney won its first game and was trailing Otter Valley 14-0 near halftime in the second game when lightning suspended the contest. The Blue Devils have a big league contest Saturday when they host Poultney.

Fair Haven is also 1-0 and leads Mount Anthony in its suspended game which will be made up Monday, Oct. 23.
