Sunday worship service at Grace Church Rutland will feature guest musicians Peter H. Bloom, flute and John Funkhouser, piano, performing music by Duke Ellington Music from Ellington's Sacred Concerts will include Come Sunday and Heaven, and other selections will include I'm Beginning to See the Light, Solitude, and Prelude to a Kiss.
Later the same day, July 21 at 4:00 pm, the Bloom/Funkhouser Duo will perform a Duke Ellington Celebration concert in the The Sundays on the Hill Concert Series, at the Church on the Hill, Lawrence Hill Road, Weston VT 05161. Tickets are $5. For information call 802-824-3704.
The Bloom/Funkhouser Jazz Duo is based in Boston and is a member of the New England States Touring Roster. Peter and John have performed together for more than 20 years. Both are veterans of the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, now in its 46th season.
Peter H. Bloom performs in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia, and appears on 45 CDs. He has shared the stage with Charles Neville, Geri Allen, Ricky Ford, Sheila Jordan, Jaki Byard and other jazz greats. John Funkhouser has appeared with notables like Luciana Souza, Tierney Sutton, Ran Blake, Herb Pomeroy, Laszlo Gardony, and Stan Strickland. John has performed at Birdland, Blue Note, Dizzy’s in New York, the Kennedy Center, and other venues from Kansas City, New Orleans, and Chicago to Paris, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
