Carleton feature foto

Local filmmaker and musician Duane Carleton’s second feature-length documentary video, “Divided by Diversity,” is the story what happened in Rutland when five teenage students from the Bronx, New York, enrolled at Mount St. Joseph Academy and joined the school’s basketball program. Carleton’s work pulls no punches depicting the reaction of fellow students, parents of Rutland basketball players and other schools. There is the triumph of winning state championship in their division in 2012 and the struggle responding to culture shock of life in a small Vermont city after growing up in New York City. Carleton will screen “Divided by Diversity” at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at Castleton University. A question and answer session with Carleton and special guests will follow the screening.
