Kiwanis of Rutland is giving away 150 free bicycle helmets to children on Sunday at its annual Bike Rodeo Safety Day. The event is from 1 to 4 p.m. at Giorgetti Park. Volunteers will be on hand to properly size helmets and teach children basic bicycle riding safety skills. There will be free hot dogs, face painting, and other activities.

Rutland City Fire Department is bringing a truck, and city police will be there as well. Children who attend will also have the chance to win one of four brand new bicycles. Coca-cola has donated 25 fanny packs to be given away, and McDonald’s is giving out coupons for free ice cream. The event is sponsored by Gill’s Delicatessen, Tenney Brook Market, McDonald’s, Brileya’s Chrysler Jeep, Price Chopper and Beauchamp & O’Rourke pharmacy.

The event is free to all. Children need not be from Rutland.
