WASHINGTON -- Senator Bernie Sanders introduced new legislation Thursday that would provide emergency funding to dairy farmers in Vermont and throughout the country who are struggling to stay in business.

The price for dairy farmers to produce milk has been higher than what they get for their products for the past four years. Dairy farms are declining in Vermont -- over 65 have been lost this year -- and Sanders wants to provide dairy farmers with financial assistance to stop this decline.

Sanders will be holding a series of listening sessions with Vermont dairy farmers, starting with one today in Middlebury.
