David L. Rorison SPRINGFIELD - David L. Rorison, 91, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, surrounded by family. He was born July 16, 1927, in Rutland, the son of Alstine and Helen (Lang) Rorison, of Mendon. He graduated in 1945 from Rutland High School. After 15 months in the U.S. Marine Corps, he attended the Vermont State School of Agriculture (now Vermont Technical College), graduating in 1947. Mr. Rorison married Eleanor Fairbank in 1949. He began as a milk tester with Springfield DHIA in 1951; after retirement from Idlenot Dairy in 1990, he returned to milk testing for another 20 years at DHIA. He was a member of the Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce), United Methodist Church and American Legion. He was also a volunteer firefighter. He served on the Springfield Senior Center Advisory Board and was named Springfield’s Senior Citizen of the Year in 2009. Mr. Rorison was a lifelong Red Sox fan. He and his wife square danced with the Precision Valley Squares and enjoyed bowling and camping. Survivors include his brother, Gilbert and family, of Rutland; five children Robert, of Springfield, Phyllis Hanus, Thomas, of Weathersfield, Gary, of El Paso, Texas, Kathleen, of Fairlee; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife in 1999 and a son, Keith, in 1990. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, where a calling hour will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels program at Senior Solutions, 38 Pleasant St., Springfield, VT 05156; or Springfield Senior Center, 139 Main St., Springfield, VT 05156.
