David R. Newton Sr. BRANDON — David Reed Newton Sr., 64, died Tuesday, May 7, 2019, from injuries sustained in a logging accident in Forest Dale. He was born Feb. 17, 1955, in Middlebury, the son of Philip and June (Narabone) Newton. He attended Mount Abraham Union High School in Bristol. Mr. Newton served in the U.S. Army at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was employed with Pratt-Whitney Corp. in Meriden, Connecticut, where he later worked in the tree removal business. Returning to Brandon, he drove truck for Green Mountain Beverage for several years. In 1985, he established his own business, Independent Tree Co. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially deep-sea fishing. Survivors include four children David “Buzzy” Newton Jr., of Mendon, Joshua Lester, of Springvale, Maine, Cody Newton, of Brandon, Becca Adams, of Hyannis, Massachusetts; six siblings Douglas Newton, of Brandon, Jeffrey Newton, of Rutland, Bradley Newton, of Pittsford, Dean Newton, of Middlebury, Lorrie Palin, of Orange, Mary Newton, of Forest Dale; the mothers of his children Christina “Susie” Newton, Kelly Disorda; eight grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Newton was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Patrick Newton, and a sister, Kelly Newton. The funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, May 11, at Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. Burial will follow in Holman Cemetery in Salisbury. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Brandon Fire Department, 61 Franklin St., Brandon, VT; or Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, VT 05733.
