Gloria R. (Volenti) Schulte-James ORWELL — Gloria Rosemarie (Volenti) Schulte-James, 83, died Friday, May 3, 2019, at her home. She was born Oct. 23, 1935, the daughter of Rocco and Stella (Chodak) Volenti, in Freeport, New York, where she received her early education. She married Herbert Charles Schulte Sr. Oct. 5, 1957; he died April 4, 1999. On Feb. 17, 2007, she married Walker Earl James in Orwell. Mrs. Schulte-James worked for Doubleday Book Publishing Co. for several years. She was on the church council and chairperson of the Deacon’s Committee at First Congregational Church of Orwell. She served as cemetery commissioner and as ballot clerk for the Town of Orwell. Mrs. Schulte-James enjoyed swimming at Lake Sunset and Sunrise, and was a member of Orwell Fortnightly Club. Survivors include her husband, of Orwell; two children Herbert Schulte Jr., of Bristol, Terri Ann Schulte-Rounsaville, of Milford, New Jersey; four stepchildren Samuel James, of West Rutland, Suzanne Taggert, of Castleton, Stephen James, Sharon Fletcher, both of Orwell; two sisters Diane Volenti, of Boca Raton, Florida, Dolores Ford, of Sebastián, Florida; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several cousins. She was also predeceased by a sister, Elaine Lewis. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at Orwell Congregational Church, officiated by the Rev. David Anderson, pastor. A reception will follow in the church hall. Private burial will be later Saturday in Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Orwell Congregational Church, Orwell, VT 05760; or Addison County Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753. Arrangements are by Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
