Larry Gregg Sudlow 1 September 1946 - 29 April 2019 DANBY – Larry Sudlow, 72, of Danby, VT passed away from cancer on the 29th of April at Mountain View Center in Rutland, VT. Larry was born in Danville, Illinois, and he spent his early years in Catlin, Illinois. After his graduation from Catlin High School in 1964, Larry joined the US Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia where he worked as a computer operator. In 1969 he moved to Boston, MA, and married Marci Morton that same year. During the three years that the couple lived in Boston, Larry worked for Harvard University in their computer department. Larry and Marci moved to Vermont in 1972, and settled in Danby, Vermont in 1973. Larry began work for the State of Vermont, Department of Employment in 1975 and while there, Larry graduated from the College of St. Joseph with a bachelor of science degree in 1998. He managed both the Bennington and Rutland employment offices simultaneously for a number of years prior to his retirement in 2012. During his retirement years Larry served on the Board of Directors of Vermont Adult Learning and was Chairman of the Board until he was forced by illness to resign. Larry enjoyed hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, bicycling, camping/traveling/vacationing, and writing songs and playing guitar. Larry was a kind man who loved all the pets and horses who shared their lives with him and his wife over the years, and who always tried to improve the lives of others. Larry will be missed by many. These reactions from a few life-long friends describe Larry's character best: Mike, “Larry was always ahead. He was the pathfinder. He had so many interests and brought everyone else along. He was a huge influence in my life.” Richard, “My feelings as well. He exposed me to so many things that influenced my entire life. Music, literature, philosophy, art and a host of other area that have shaped who I am. He is the single most influential person in my life by far.” Barb,”I saw the gentle, loyal person. Always kind. Always willing to help. Of course he was very smart, but never made anyone feel less because he knew more. He loved having fun.” Larry was predeceased by his mother, Shirley Joyce McKeehan and his father Paul Leland Sudlow. Surviving are his wife, Marci Sudlow, a sister; Paula Clay of Cumberland, Wisconsin; two brothers, John Sudlow of Oakwood, Illinois and Edward Sudlow of Catlin, Illinois; and a number of nieces/ nephews and grand nieces/nephews. Larry's family would like to thank Drs. Ahearn and Sobel and all the other doctors involved in his care, as well as the nurses and staff at both the Rutland Hospital and Mountain View for their exceptional care and unfailing kindness to Larry.
