Since when does the Rutland Herald print a church sermon in the Letters to the Editor column? I reference “Graham’s godly message” appearing in Tuesday’s May 28 paper. I respect Mr. Welsh, his faith and his commentary. What I question is the Herald's judgment.

I do not question, nor argue, nor in any way deny the value of, or the philosophy of “Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do.” But in this world, in this day of hate, racism, anti-Semitism, anti-Islamism, feuding politics, all expressed in physically violent public protest going so far as to drive cars into crowds to kill and maim, I’m not as certain as Mr. Welch, or Mr. Graham for that matter, that “... they know not what they do.” I think they know exactly what they do and personally, I pray that God in his wisdom does not forgive them for what they do.
