A car sits at rest on the side of Route 30 in Poultney on Wednesday afternoon as Green Mountain Power employees stabilize a utility pole that was knocked down by the vehicle. According to a press release by Vermont State Police, Lauren Fredette, of Poultney, was operating the vehicle. Fredette told police she moved over to avoid an oncoming car that had crossed the center line, at which point her car went off the road. Fredette was unable to regain control of the vehicle, which rolled several times after leaving the shoulder before coming to rest, the statement said. Police said the car hit the pole and broke it in half. Fredette had minor back pain from the crash and was treated at Rutland Regional Medical Center. Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by the Poultney Fire Department, Poultney Rescue Squad and Green Mountain Power. The vehicle was a total loss, police said.
