“I came to realize that there was a lot of healing work that needed to be done in the Jewish community,” says Rabba Kaya Stern-Kaufman, of the Rutland Jewish Community. Rabba Kaya comes to Rutland from the Berkshires. If her title is unfamiliar, that’s because it’s a new word. There’s never been a specific rabbinical title for women before now, and Rabba Kaya is one of only a few women who use that title. “There’s a lot more than just teaching in Hebrew school that I wish to address,” she says.  “So many of the sparks of light have been hidden and lost, and I wanted to retrieve them and help to create sacred community within the Jewish community.” See and hear Rabba Kaya Stern-Kaufman tell her story in her own words in this week’s Talking Pictures video, above.
