BOMOSEEN — Port, starboard, stern, jib sheet, daggerboard — these terms are not in a typical 10-year-old's vocabulary. That's a problem lifelong sailor and Castleton resident Joe Mark wanted to fix. This past year, The Rutland Herald covered Mark's need of sailboats for his youth Sailing Camp — a volunteer driven week-long course using the largest inbound lake in Vermont as a place to teach children how to operate sailboats. Mark, with the help of his team of boat donors, on-water chaperones and the town's Recreation Committee, brought his idea to fruition this past week. This week's People & Places shows off the class at the beginning of the week and their last days.
